RAPID-ESP-HT

RAPID-ESP is a pre-insulated pipe system engineered to maximize energy efficiency. This is achieved through the continuous optimization of thermal insulation using high-performance polyurethane foam and the integrated preparation for trace heating.

When Is Trace Heating Required?

In many industrial processes, the media transported through pipelines require temperatures above ambient levels to maintain optimal viscosity and flow characteristics. Trace heating delivers this necessary thermal energy, ensuring consistent process reliability.

Another common application is frost protection: when ambient temperatures fall below a set threshold (e.g., +5°C), a frost protection controller activates the heating system. This prevents medium crystallization and system failure due to freezing.

RAPID-ESP pipes designed for trace heating include built-in stainless steel empty tubes—either round (Ø 10 mm) or oval (18 × 10 mm)—mounted on the pipe surface. The number and positioning of these tubes are customized based on individual heating requirements and pipe dimensions. A thermally conductive adhesive ensures close contact between the medium pipe and the heating element, enhancing heat transfer across a larger surface

Trace heating systems for pre-insulated pipes

The heating for the medium inside the pipe can be generated in several ways:

• Electric heating cables or tapes: Flexible and easy to insert into trace heating tubes.

• Round, single-core cables with plastic insulation and fixed resistance provide a constant output.

• Oval self-regulating heating bands use a semiconductor element that adjusts power output based on temperature—reducing output as pipe temperature increases.

Jabitherm typically calculates approx. 10 W per meter of trace heating pipe, incorporating safety margins. While outputs of up to 30 W/m are technically possible, the actual output decreases significantly as medium temperature rises.

Alternatives

Hot Water Heating Ideal for processes that benefit from thermal inertia, such as chocolate and sugar processing, hot water heating systems offer consistent, safe, and maintenance-free operation. Suitable for media temperatures up to +80°C.

Skin Effect Heating Designed for long-distance pipelines, this method uses ferromagnetic trace heating tubes. A high-frequency, plastic-insulated conductor is inserted, generating heat through alternating magnetic fields. This technology enables cost-effective heating over several kilometers but is not compatible with stainless steel.

Energy efficiency

With energy prices on the rise, efficiency is critical. The RAPID-ESP system provides approximately 30% better insulation than conventional mineral wool solutions. Its diffusion-tight outer jacket ensures that no moisture penetrates the insulation, preserving thermal performance over time—especially important for trace-heated pipelines.

Reduced Installation Costs

The RAPID product family’s composite system also offers considerable savings in installation and transport time. The integrated system—consisting of a medium pipe, highly effective insulation foam, and a moisture- and dust-resistant outer jacket—is designed for quick, efficient assembly. Scaffolding costs are minimized, as only the joints, rather than the full pipe length, require insulation. Weather-related delays are also significantly reduced. The sturdy construction of the RAPID-ESP

system facilitates fast and straightforward installation, allowing pipe clamps to be mounted directly to the outer casing. This design eliminates thermal or cold bridges—typical weak points in traditional systems.

Advantage through RAPID-ESP

The RAPID-ESP piping system is also characterized by its slim shape. The highly effective insulation allows the insulation thickness to be reduced while increasing the insulating effect. The controlled production ensures consistent quality. See for yourself in comparison.
